luna the beep a deep

This blog is dedicated to my sweet hen Luna. She died this afternoon after a tragic attack last night. It's uncertain how she was attacked, but we think it was from our little puppy stash. The weird thing is that he's been such a sweetie with the hens these past few weeks. We have even left him home alone with them free ranging and nothing like this has ever happened. Yesterday Gus went outside and came back in to tell me Luna didn't look very good. It was almost sunset and I ran outside to see her. She was lying in the grass with her black speckled feathers around her. I looked closer and saw an awful wound to her back. We picked her up and brought her in the house. Gave her some quinoa and a fresh bowl of water. Had a nice toasty fire going to keep her warm and quiet. Gus put raw honey on her wound and hoped for the best. This morning I called a friend for advice. She told me what to do but after only 20 minutes of getting off the phone, Luna flew away. It was really beautiful though, because she hadn't made any noise since last night. But right before she left, she made a beep a deep sound. Almost like she was saying goodbye and then she was gone. I sat with her and cried. My eyes are all watery right now just writing about it. She was my most adventurous hen. Always being the last one to go in the coop at night. She was SUPER smart and when she was little she would fly up my back on to the top of my head. I loved her so. Here's some pics of her over the years along with the other beep a deeps. Anyone who has visited our little rainbow farm, knows how special each hen is. They are the friendliest little beeps around. And they give us the most golden delicious yolks.
I love you Luna and you will always be remembered on our farm.
Fly away now for transformation.

Alright, so I thought it was time to let this cat out of the bag. I am starting a business. Super excited and gitty and nervous all at the same time. I decided a while back to eventually one day start a little shop. Then some things just lined up in the past few months to make it possible. It's so fun to watch our dreams and desires manifest into full bloom.  I have a grand opening date scheduled for May 11th.
So in the mean time I shall be a busy bee, flying around stitching up the loose ends. This little business is going to be a sewing alteration shop and will feature flower essences, essential oils, organic clothing and of course some vintage dresses. I'm planning a trip to LA next weekend to hopefully score some awesome finds. I am trying to stay focused and wear many different hats. Making a business is pretty easy all in all but does take some work. Right now my focus has been on getting the layout together, and painting. WOW painting is a project. Never thought it'd take as long as it has but I'm almost ready to put the paintbrush down. Here's some pics of the store as it goes through its stages of transformation...

Confetti Eggs

Today is Easter! Unfortunately, this year is going to be pretty mellow. I thought it'd be fun to show some pics of the fun from last year. We have a fun tradition in my family regarding the eggs. Every year since I can remember, we would blow the yolk out of the eggs and stuff them with confetti. Some years we even made the confetti!. Then during Easter, someone would crack one on top of your head when you least expected it.

I miss the egg hunts with my brother and sister too. We would hunt and hide eggs until it got dark. Even on the years it rained, we would still be outside hunting and hiding them. We loved it so much! I'm not even really sure why. One year someone hid an egg so good, that it didn't turn up for a few months. OOOPS! We also had a tradition to make one egg the "golden egg". An adult would hide this one really good! And whoever found it, would win a great prize. One year the golden egg ended up underneath my uncle's sweater on top of his shoulder. It took a game of "hot and cold" before we found it. Fun times I will never forget. Here's some pics of last year's Easter.
Wishing I was with my familia today.
